System upgrade: the Fiction add-on for the Book Publishing System

Now write the stories too.

Novels, novellas, short stories and collections, in any genre, standalone or in a series.

The system you just bought researches and produces practical nonfiction. The Fiction add-on does the same for stories. It researches your genre on Amazon, builds a story bible that remembers every character and every fact the story has fixed, outlines the book on its shape, drafts and checks it chapter by chapter, sets it on novel page settings, builds the cover on your own artwork, and prepares the audiobook.

The same rules as the system you already have. Claude reads the market and never invents a rank, a sale or an income figure. It drafts and checks; you choose the story, approve the outline and decide the ending. It will not imitate a named living author or write about someone else's characters.

More power, more range

Turn your nonfiction system into a nonfiction and fiction publishing studio.

The Fiction add-on replaces nothing. It plugs into the system you already have and widens everything it can do: the same engine, the same checks, the same projects, now with the tools a story needs.

What it adds

Everything a story needs that a nonfiction book does not.

It installs beside the system you have and uses its engine: the two projects, the Chrome sidebar for Amazon, typesetting, the eBook check, the pre-flight, promotions and the weekly check. What changes is everything that makes fiction fiction.

Research the genre, not a niche

In the Chrome sidebar Claude reads your genre's bestsellers today: the top 15 to 20, their series, lengths, prices, Kindle Unlimited, ratings and dates. It reads what readers loved and what let them down in the top five's reviews, counts the themes across books, and records the genre's conventions: length, price, series, covers and tropes. It also looks for an evergreen choice: how many of the top books are three or more years old and still selling, so you know whether readers keep coming back to the genre or a trend is passing through. Every figure is tagged with where it came from, or left blank.

A story bible that remembers

Characters, the world, the timeline and a style sheet: the facts the story has fixed, chapter by chapter. For a series the bible is shared by every book, so book three still knows the colour of a boat named in book one. Claude writes UNKNOWN rather than invent a fact you have not decided.

An outline on the story's shape

Opening, inciting incident, commitment, midpoint, lowest point, climax and resolution, then each chapter's viewpoint, scenes and word target. You approve it before a word is drafted, and the ending is always yours.

Chapters, checked the way fiction fails

The fiction checks catch the worn phrases of machine-written fiction, unbalanced quotation marks, filter words, loud dialogue tags, close repeats, and point of view or tense drifting. The continuity check catches a name spelled one letter wrong and maps who is in which chapter. The word lists are yours to change.

Novel page settings and your own cover art

Three calibrated fiction settings (5 x 8, 5.5 x 8.5 and 6 x 9 inches), set the way novels are set: justified, hyphenated, indented paragraphs, scene breaks. The cover is built on your own artwork: checked at 300 pixels per inch, the title set over it, the spine and back built for the page count, the eBook cover made from it. Or bring a designer's finished cover and have it checked.

Audiobooks, both routes

A script written for the ear with scene breaks as pauses, notes on the cast for a narrator, the running time, and the square cover. Ready for KDP's virtual voice (an invite-only beta KDP offers book by book) or for ACX with a human narrator, you or one you hire. Claude never records audio.

Not another story generator

Stories readers finish, not text that merely fills pages.

Fiction made in one click reads like it: characters who change names, clues that vanish, the same tired phrases on every page. The Fiction add-on builds your story the way careful authors do.

No page limit

Let the story run as long as it needs to

Many quick story tools count your chapters or charge credits for every page, so a long novel can hit its limit before the ending. The Fiction add-on never meters your story's length.

  • No page limit but Amazon's. Up to 776 pages for a paperback on cream paper, the usual paper for novels, or 828 on white, 75 to 550 for a hardcover, and no limit for a Kindle eBook.
  • Short story, novella, novel or series: no credits per page, no chapter allowance, no word cap.
  • A page ceiling set when you start each story, from its target length or the comparable books in your genre, and confirmed by you. Raise it whenever the story needs the room.
  • Every chapter written to fit, and the length checked against the ceiling before you publish.

How much Claude writes for you in a day depends on your own Claude plan; the add-on itself never limits the length of your story.

Your readers get a story that holds together from the first page to the last, the kind of story readers like to recommend.

Your time back

Keep writing. Let the system keep track.

The hidden cost of fiction is the bookkeeping: who knows what, when it happened, what colour the boat was. The add-on carries all of it for you.

Stuck halfway with writer's block, not knowing what happens next.

Claude helps you past it: the outline and story bible show where the story is going, and Claude talks through the next scene with you or drafts it in your voice for you to reshape.

Keeping notes on every character, place and date by hand.

The story bible, updated chapter by chapter.

Rereading the whole book to find continuity slips.

The continuity check flags a name spelled one letter wrong and who is in which chapter.

Setting scene breaks, indents and chapter openings in Word.

Typeset on novel page settings, ready to upload.

Fitting your artwork to a cover and working out the spine.

The wrap built on your art for the exact page count.

Preparing a manuscript for a narrator.

An audiobook script with scene breaks as pauses and notes on the cast.

More time for the story, less for the paperwork.

The example's paperback wrap, built by the add-on on "your own artwork" (a stand-in made in code): the title set over the picture on shading dark enough to read, the back and the barcode area.

See it before you write your own

A cosy mystery, taken all the way through.

Lantern Night at Tansy Lock, a novelette of about 8,900 words: the brief, the bible, the outline, four checked chapters, a 35-page paperback interior, the eBook, the cover, the listing, the pre-flight go and the audiobook script. Every file came out of the add-on's own tools, and its README lists the commands in the order they ran.

It is an example, not a product: Claude wrote the story for the add-on, and the files say so, as they would for a book of yours. Recording whether the text is your writing or Claude's draft is what keeps your answer on KDP's AI question true.

What you receive

A quick fit check

For writers who want to finish stories, not generate them.

Good fit

  • Writers with a story, or a genre they love to read
  • Anyone planning a series with the same characters
  • Short-story writers building a collection
  • Artists and writers with their own cover art
  • Authors who want an audiobook without a studio

Not a fit

  • You want a finished novel from one prompt
  • You want to imitate a named author, or write about someone else's characters
  • You want guaranteed sales or royalties
  • You do not have the Book Publishing System (the add-on needs it)

Good to know

  • Short stories shine as Kindle eBooks, or gathered into a collection for a paperback: the add-on works out the page count and tells you which suits your story.
  • A story Claude drafts is "AI-generated" in KDP's terms and must be disclosed; your own writing, edited with Claude's help, is "AI-assisted" and need not be. The add-on records which.
  • Audiobooks go through KDP's virtual voice where KDP offers it for your book, or ACX with a human narrator: the add-on prepares for both.
Do I need the Book Publishing System?

Yes. The add-on installs into the repository the system set up and uses its engine: the projects, typesetting, the eBook check, the pre-flight and the after-launch tools. It adds only what fiction needs.

Will Claude write my novel?

Claude can draft it chapter by chapter from your brief, bible and outline, in your voice, and check each chapter. Or you write and Claude edits and checks. Either way you choose the story, approve the outline and decide the ending, and the add-on records whose words they are, because KDP asks.

Is there a length limit?

No, only Amazon's: up to 776 pages for a paperback on cream paper at these trims, or 828 on white, 75 to 550 for a hardcover, and none for a Kindle eBook. Each story gets its own page ceiling when you start it, proposed from its target length or from the comparable books in your genre, and confirmed by you, so a novella and a long saga are both planned to a length. The outline and every chapter are written to fit it, and you can raise it whenever the story needs the room.

What if I get writer's block halfway through?

Claude helps you past it. Your outline and story bible always show where the story is going and what every character knows, so you are never starting cold. Ask Claude to talk through what could happen next, suggest a few directions, or draft the next scene in your voice for you to rewrite. The story stays yours: you choose what happens.

Which genres?

Any. The research reads your genre's own shelf, so the conventions come from the books readers are buying today, not from a template. KDP's content guidelines apply as always, and the listing's audience questions are answered truthfully.

Can I use my own cover art?

Yes, and that is how the cover is built: your front picture or a full wrap, checked at 300 pixels per inch, the title and author set over it, the spine and back built for the page count. You confirm you own the art or have a licence that covers a book cover. A designer's finished cover can be checked as it is.

Can it make audiobooks?

It prepares them: a script written for listening, notes on the cast, the running time and the square cover. KDP's virtual voice is an invite-only beta; ACX needs a human narrator, you or one you hire. Claude never records audio.

What can a story earn?

Every book is different, so we make no income claims. What the add-on does is give your story its best start: a genre researched before you write, a story that holds together, a cover built on your art, clean files, and an audiobook ready to record. How much it earns depends on the story, the cover, the price, promotion and your persistence.

Upgrade your system with fiction: add it to your order.

Research the genre. Keep the story straight. Finish the book, the cover and the audiobook.
